Some photographs do not demand attention. Their power lies in stillness. This is one of them: a calm sea, a few scattered rocks, a sky that almost disappears. Nothing insists on being seen, yet the eye keeps returning.<\/p>\n

Minimalist photographs leave space for thoughts, feelings and interpretation. They calm us and invite us to pause. Instead of showing everything, they reveal what matters most. That is where their strength lies.<\/p>\n

A few warm-toned rocks rest in smooth water. Above them, the sky is grey, almost seamless. Little contrast, plenty of stillness. Only the rocks give the eye something to hold on to. The photograph offers no explanation; it leaves room for one.<\/p>\n

Weniger ist manchmal mehr<\/a>. Aber nicht immer. Manche Motive brauchen Tiefe, Detail und Dynamik. Reduktion ist kein Dogma. Sie ist eine Entscheidung. Und genau das macht sie spannend.<\/p>\n

Reduction Begins with Seeing<\/h2>\n

F\u00fcr mich bedeutet Reduktion in der Fotografie vor allem, bewusst zu entscheiden, was ein Bild wirklich braucht. Welche Elemente tragen zur Bildaussage bei? Was lenkt nur ab? Manchmal gen\u00fcgt ein einzelner Stein, eine Linie im Wasser oder eine kleine Struktur in einer gro\u00dfen leeren Fl\u00e4che. Ein Beispiel daf\u00fcr ist mein Bild vom gefrorenen See<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Negative space also plays an important role. Areas where little seems to happen give the subject room to breathe. In landscape photography, this can create a calm that a more complex composition might lose.<\/p>\n

Shutter speed can simplify a scene too. A long exposure quiets moving water, removes small details and allows surfaces to merge. A restless coast can become an almost motionless landscape. I explored this effect in my photographic projectStillness in the Water<\/a>.<\/p>\n

One Place, Many Possibilities<\/h2>\n

I made this photograph on a stretch of coast not far from home, as part of a series exploring different photographic and stylistic approaches: Fine Art, black and white, classic landscape photography and deliberate minimalism.<\/p>\n

I wanted to show how differently one place can look depending on how you see it. I created this series during an early morning outing, accompanied by the soft light of sunrise, the quiet rhythm of waves and the almost meditative calm of the landscape.<\/p>\n

For me, reduction also means giving a subject time. Only when I look for longer do I often recognise which parts of a landscape matter to the photograph and which I can leave out.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
