Over the past few days I have been out again, searching for an image that offers more than an attractive subject. For me, Fine Art photography is not only about seeing, but about shaping an image. Reduced. Focused. Minimalist.<\/p>\n
This time my journey led me to an old shipwreck. It has lain there for decades, heavy, weathered and rusted. But when is the right moment to photograph such a subject?
\nI am an early riser by conviction. The fresh, quiet morning air gives me energy, and the light at that hour can be exceptional. But this project demanded far more than simply getting the time of day right.<\/p>\n
The wreck lies right on the shore. With too little water, the foreground would be nothing but wet sand. I needed high tide. At the same time, the summer sunrise had to strike the hull from a very particular angle to bring out its texture. That happens on only a few days each year, and only when you arrive very early.
\nThe sky also had to cooperate: enough clouds to create depth, but not so many that everything became flat and grey. Then there was a four- to five-hour journey, including ferries running to fixed schedules. There was no room for spontaneity.<\/p>\n
I planned these photographs for an entire year, checking the tide tables, position of the sun and weather forecasts again and again. And then came that one morning. Everything lined up: high tide, structure in the sky and light. Soft, golden, clear light.
\nIt was some of the most beautiful morning light I have ever experienced as an amateur photographer.<\/p>\n
Photographs like these do not happen by chance. They are the result of planning, patience and the determination to make a difference between a quick snapshot and a photographic expression that stays with you.<\/p>\n
