The sun sinks, but before it disappears, it reveals its full strength. Rays break through the clouds, as if trying to tear open the sky and whisper one last secret.

The evening sun is no ordinary light. It marks a transition, a threshold between day and night. It gives the world a glow deeper than the brightness of midday: warm, golden light that does more than illuminate the landscape. It bathes it in a soft radiance.

Photographing the Evening Sun: Light and Landscape

I took this photograph last week on a mountain walk with my daughter. We stood up there together and watched the sun slowly retreat, filling the landscape with warmth. For me, it was more than a picture. It was the experience of sharing a quiet wonder.

Evening sunlight fades quickly, yet its afterglow lingers, on the water, in the sky and within us. Perhaps that is its greatest gift: reminding us how fleeting everything is, and how that very transience makes what matters most visible.

My article shows how differently the same light can appear in the mountains: The First Signs.
