Always moving, restless, never still. And yet everything felt calm, almost composed.

I took this photograph early in the morning, at sunrise. The day had only just begun, and the light was low, soft and clear. Typical winter light: restrained and honest. It fell across the rocks without adding drama, as if it had nothing to explain and simply wanted to be there.

What fascinates me about moments like this is the contradiction. The sea never stops moving. It pulls, pushes and reshapes. And yet, in a photograph, it can appear still. Movement dissolves. Time stretches, restlessness softens and chaos turns into calm.

Much of this photograph comes from what I chose to leave out. I deliberately kept a clear horizon line out of the frame and excluded distracting elements in the foreground. I wanted to create space. Space for the water. Space for the light. Space for what lies between movement and stillness.

Between the rocks, everything remains solid. The water comes and goes. For me, there is something deeply human in that encounter.

I do not seek out moments like these to tame the sea. I want to show how calm can emerge when we loosen our grip and begin to see things differently. In photography, but also in life.

Das Meer war da.
