There are photographs you only begin to understand later. Not because their meaning was hidden at first, but because you were looking at them with different eyes. This is one of those photographs for me.<\/p>\n
A mountain. An open expanse. A quiet sky. There is not much to see, really. And perhaps that is precisely where its strength lies.<\/p>\n
In the past, I would probably have looked for more. More light, more atmosphere, more action. Today, what interests me about this photograph is the opposite: the stillness, the weight, the simple form. The mountain is not spectacular. It stands firm. Almost closed off. The empty space in front of it does not make it smaller, but larger. It gives the mountain room to exist.<\/p>\n
In black and white, the scene becomes less documentary. Where the photograph was made matters less than how it feels. It is about weight, distance, and stillness.<\/p>\n
Perhaps that is the true value of old photographs. They show not only what we photographed back then, but also how the way we see has changed.<\/p>\n
Sometimes a photograph needs time. And sometimes we need time ourselves before we can really see it.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
