Sometimes, as a photographer, you feel you have to keep moving. Look for new places. Find new subjects. See new landscapes.
\nYet perhaps some photographs are made precisely where you've stood before.<\/p>\n
This photograph was taken at a place on the Atlantic coast I know well. I've been there many times. Down by the water, close to the rocks, close to the movement of the sea.<\/p>\n
This time, I stepped further back. A little higher onto the rocks. To a place where the coastline revealed itself not just as a fleeting moment, but as a form.<\/p>\n
The sky was almost empty. Nothing dramatic. No clouds to carry the image.<\/p>\n
And perhaps that was exactly right.<\/p>\n
The sky grew still. The rocks seemed heavier. The water calmer. The long exposure took some of the restlessness out of the surf and revealed something else.<\/p>\n
Lines. Edges. Time.<\/p>\n
Perhaps that is what returning means. Not simply going back to the same place, but being open enough to see it differently.<\/p>\n
