No houses, no voices, no one on the horizon. For hours, I didn't meet another soul.

And that absence of people didn't feel oppressive. It felt freeing.

When nothing around you demands your attention, the way you look begins to change.

A pale stone among dark vegetation suddenly matters. A cloud touching a distant mountain is enough to make you stop. Subtle changes in the light become visible.

When little happens, you begin to look more closely again.

Perhaps that is why these barren landscapes fascinate me so much. You don't need a spectacular subject. Sometimes a few shapes, a great deal of space, and the feeling of being the only person for miles are enough.

This experience shapes my landscape photography, too. In a place without people, I look for photographs differently. I don't have to exclude signs of human life or wait for the right moment. The emptiness is already part of the place.

That gives distances and open spaces greater weight in the frame. I don't want to fill them. They can stay as they are, holding something of the vastness I felt there.

The dark editing of this photograph is meant to convey that same feeling: vastness, solitude, and the beauty of very little.

The longer I walked, the less empty the landscape seemed.

Perhaps that is one of the things I value most about places like this. After a few hours, the absence of other people stops mattering. Instead, you begin to notice what is actually there.

Wind. Light. Stones. Clouds. My own footsteps.

At that moment, I needed nothing more.

This photograph is part of my photography project “Where Little Happens”.
