Water begins just ahead. Beyond it rise mountains, some already covered in snow, beneath a heavy sky. The diving board stretches out into the open and simply ends.

When I made this long-exposure photograph beside a fjord, it was precisely this contrast that held my attention. The diving board seems solid and unmoving, while the water, clouds, and light are constantly changing.

Before the leap, anything is still possible. You can go on. You can stay where you are. You can turn back.

Perhaps that is why moments like these feel so intense. For a little while, several paths exist at once. Only when we make a choice does one possibility become real.

For me, this photograph captures that brief in-between. The long exposure has made the water almost smooth. Above it, clouds move across the sky, while the snow-covered mountains stand quietly in the distance.

Stillness and movement exist side by side. Long exposures change the way I perceive a landscape. Moving water loses its restlessness. Clouds begin to flow. Things that constantly change in reality suddenly appear calm, almost timeless.

The diving board, meanwhile, remains clear and steady. Perhaps that contrast gives the image its strength. It leads out into the landscape without revealing what comes next.

Sometimes we, too, reach a point where the familiar ends. There is no clear line left to follow. Only the view ahead and the question of whether we are ready to take the next step.

Perhaps it does not always take courage. Sometimes trust is enough: trust that we do not need to know everything before moving forward. Maybe that is what makes the moment before the leap so special.

The ground still holds us. The unknown already lies ahead.

Es gibt diesen kurzen Moment, in dem noch nichts entschieden ist.
