THE PERSON BEHIND THE CAMERA
I photograph what often goes unnoticed.
I'm Dirk, and I live in Norway. Out here, I find the subjects that stay with me: solitary landscapes, individual forms, traces of time, and subtle changes in nature.
I'm rarely looking for the most spectacular view. Often it's an unremarkable detail that makes me stop. A line in the rock, a piece of driftwood, a leaf in the last light.
Pictures of Norway is my photographic exploration of nature, time, and the fleeting moments in between.
01 / THE WAY I SEE
Show less. Look closer.
My photography is quiet, pared back, and often dark. Negative space matters to me just as much as the subject itself. I don't want to show as much of a landscape as possible. What interests me is which shape, which line, or which moment truly has something to say.
For me, the absence of people is no loss. In remote parts of Norway, I experience a silence that changes the way I see. There, I can wait, observe, and decide what should remain in the frame.
Sometimes an image needs only a shape, a little light, and a great deal of space.

02 / THE PHOTOGRAPHY
An image begins before the shutter is released.
I take my time searching for the right composition. I move around, watch the light, and sometimes leave the camera in my bag. Some places don't yield a photograph. That, too, is part of the process.
03 / THE EDITING
Interpretation, but true to the moment.
In Lightroom, I work with light, contrast, and tonal values to express how I experienced a scene. I don't replace skies or add artificial sunbeams. The finished image can be a personal interpretation, but the landscape should remain the one I actually saw.
What I take with me.
My equipment should never distract me from seeing. It gives me the freedom to capture shapes, light, and fleeting moments as I experience them outdoors.

In the end, it's not the camera that determines whether an image tells a story. It's what I discover within it.
05 / BEHIND THE IMAGES
The journey to an image matters, too.
My photographs show a finished moment. But the story often begins much earlier: with an idea, a journey, or the question of whether an unremarkable subject can hold an image together.
In the YouTube series Wo Bilder entstehen I take you along on my photography trips. In Auf den zweiten Blick I show how I edit my photographs in Lightroom. I'm less interested in a perfect recipe than in the decisions behind each step.
In the Journal I also write about these ideas - about perception, photography, and experiences along the way.
PICTURES OF NORWAY
Perhaps you'll stay a little longer.
I hope my photographs encourage you to look a little closer. You'll find my finished work among the selected works. The projects tell the stories behind them.
