I love setting out early. Not only because the world is quieter then, but because it reveals itself differently: unadorned, clear and yet full of magic. That morning I drove a little farther than usual. I already knew the subject, but could not let it go. An old fisherman's house built right into the bay, solitary, simple and full of character.
The walk there was quiet. Nobody around, no sound but the crunch of my footsteps and the gentle breathing of the water. There was barely any wind, and the sun was still low, just high enough to brush the house with a veil of gold. Light you cannot plan, only experience.
I moved slowly along the shore, almost as if on a morning walk, searching for the right angle and listening to the silence. Then I set up my tripod.
With a 30-second exposure, distractions seem to disappear. The water settles, movement softens, and the subject emerges, clear, quiet and almost detached from time and place.
In editing, I simplified the photograph even further. I removed what distracted from the subject, not to make it prettier, but to make what mattered visible and give the house the space it deserves. This is how I approach Fine Art photography: not simply documenting, but searching for what remains when everything else grows still.
