The ground has thawed. Not everywhere yet, but here it is enough. There is moisture in the air. The forest feels heavy and still. And in the middle of it all, there they are. Small. Unassuming. The first signs of spring.
In other parts of Europe, they have long since finished flowering. Here, they are only just beginning.
And that is why this moment feels different. Slower. More restrained.
The light comes in low from the side. Warm and close to the ground. It does not illuminate the entire forest, only a small patch, like a spotlight. Everything else remains in darkness. Disappears. And suddenly something tiny becomes the centre of attention.
I am working with a prime lens, wide open. The photograph takes shape not through what is visible, but through what disappears. The background dissolves. Forms become soft. Distractions fade away.
What remains is this one moment. Quiet. Almost fragile.
To me, this is the real beginning of the photography season. Not the grand landscapes or wide vistas, but these little signs. Light that has strength again. Ground that shows life once more. Shapes emerging into view.
I do not go outside to hunt for something. I go out to see again. And sometimes all it takes is a little patch of light in the forest and a few flowers simply being there.
