The calendar still says spring, but this evening already feels like summer. The air is mild, hardly a breath of wind disturbs the water, and the temperature is approaching 20 degrees Celsius. It is one of those rare moments when time seems to stand still, unplanned and quietly unexpected.
I made this photograph by chance. I was actually on my way home from another outing. The light seemed to be fading and my memory card was almost full. But when I caught sight of this small fishing village from a different angle, I stopped, drawn by the stillness, the light and that particular atmosphere.
The photograph shows a typical place on the Norwegian coast. Red and ochre wooden houses line the waterfront, their reflections painted onto the smooth water. A lighthouse watches over the village from a hill, its red roof glowing against the blue sky.
The sky itself seems almost too still for this world: clear, deep and soft at once. There is almost no wind, and the water behaves like a mirror, reflecting this first quiet summer evening.
This was not a planned composition or a photograph prepared far in advance, but a gift of the moment.
Perhaps these are the images that stay with us most: when light, landscape and feeling come together without staging, and for a brief moment everything falls into place.

The light is captivating, and we’d love to be able to enjoy this moment for a little while longer, before nightfall.

thank you – beautifully said.
That’s exactly how I felt too: the light was so special, you just wanted to hold on to the moment a little longer before it slipped away.
