Morning Light

Morning had not quite arrived. The light lay low across the landscape. Warm, soft, and tentative. A little mist still lingered between the hills. Not much. Just enough to make everything feel calmer.

In the distance, I could hear the surf. Quiet, but always there.

And between the waves came the birdsong. Those brief calls you really notice only in the early hours.

So it was not silent there. But it felt silent. Perhaps that is the difference. Nature does not fall silent. It simply does not need to be loud.

For me, these are special moments to photograph. The low light does not carve harsh lines into the landscape. It merely brushes across it.

The mist removes detail. The shadows still hold something back. And that is what creates this sense of calm. Not perfection, but restraint.

I love mornings like these because they change the way I photograph. More slowly. More attentively.

You do not immediately search for a grand subject. First, you simply stand there, listen, look, and wait. Until, at some point, you understand what the morning wants to reveal.

  2. Lieber Dirk,

      Dirk
