This photograph tells of a moment of rest. I made it in a landscape both rugged and clear. In the foreground a weathered tree stump rises from the sparse ground, leading the eye into the distance like an anchor that slowly draws the viewer into the composition.
The mountain range in the background feels monumental without becoming overwhelming. Patches of snow on the peaks are remnants of a winter that never quite leaves these heights, and fresh snow can still fall during the seasons of transition. The mountains step across the image from left to right, creating natural leading lines that guide the eye through the frame.
The monochrome treatment deliberately concentrates on tones, textures and contrasts. Subtle gradations appear in the sky and the structure of the ground. Colour gives way to form, space and atmosphere. Nothing distracts. Only light, shadow and stillness.
I often seek out places like this, landscapes that do not shout but tell their stories quietly. I made this photograph on a walk when I was looking for precisely such subjects: reduced, understated and still.

Wunderschön!!! Vielleicht hätte der Vordergrund etwas heller sein können?
Liebe Grüße und schönen Sonntag,

Vielen lieben Dank, Roland! Ja, der Gedanke mit dem Vordergrund ist spannend – vielleicht probiere ich das beim nächsten Mal aus.
Liebe Grüße und dir auch einen schönen Sonntag!
