There are nights when time seems to stand still. Nights when the sun refuses to set and lingers on the horizon, as if it has changed its mind. Today is the longest day of the year.
Before me lies a jagged landscape of rock rising from the earth like a serrated wall, dark, rugged and ancient. The foreground bears the traces of the changing tides; low light brushes the wet stones. And there on the horizon, almost unreal, is the midnight sun. It touches the edge of the world with a warm glow without quite disappearing. The clouds above catch the light as if trying to hold on to it.
I used a very fast shutter speed to preserve the texture of the rocks and keep the dramatic light on the horizon from blowing out. My camera settings were chosen to handle the scene's wide dynamic range: a dark foreground and bright sky. In post-processing I deliberately restrained the colours to draw attention to form, light and atmosphere. I was interested in interpretation rather than mere documentation.
The midnight sun is more than a natural phenomenon. It is a feeling, an invitation to stay awake and keep looking.

I love these endless days, so sorry to go to bed at 4:00 when a new day is already beginning.

I know exactly what you mean! It’s that special light in the night that makes it so hard to go to sleep. You just want to soak in every moment of it.
