There are places where everything happens at once. People move. Voices overlap. Footsteps, light, movement. Nothing stands still.
I stand in the middle of this city and notice how different everything feels. Faster, louder, more restless.
And yet I keep coming back.
It is nature that really sustains me. Out there, everything becomes slower, clearer, quieter.
That is where I find peace. Space. Room for my thoughts again.
And yet something is missing when I stay there too long. Perhaps it is precisely this contrast that I need. One does not work without the other.
The city demands. Nature lets go. The city is movement. Nature is stillness.
And somewhere between the two, there is me.
I took this photograph in Oslo, right in the middle of rush hour. Everything was moving. People going about their lives. Not stopping. Not looking.
I deliberately chose black and white. Not because the colours were uninteresting, but because they would have been too much. Too loud, too distracting.
Black and white takes something away. And that is exactly how more becomes visible. Structures, lines, movement. People become part of a larger whole. Not separate stories, but a shared rhythm. The bustle remains, but it becomes calmer. Easier to grasp.
Perhaps this is my way of dealing with that contrast.
I take the restlessness and give it a form I can understand. I can feel the peace because I know what restlessness feels like. And I can endure the bustle because I know there are places where everything becomes quiet again.
I walk through these streets, watching people and the paths that cross.
And I realise that this, too, is part of it.
Not as an opposite, but as part of the whole.

I’ll take Nature. The world moves much faster today than it did in the 70s.
