Here, the Norwegian coast reveals its rougher side. Waves crash against the rocks, wind lashes the water, and sea spray hangs in the air like fine mist. I stood on the wet rocks with my tripod firmly anchored.
A fast shutter speed was no stylistic whim but a necessity. It was the only way to capture the true force of the waves: raw and direct, without softening their movement.
The photograph draws its power from contrast. Dark, almost threatening clouds press down from above, the restless sea churns below, and between them lies a fine strip of light at the horizon. A small opening of calm that makes the drama even more intense.
I deliberately kept the composition open. The eye has nowhere to settle. The movement of the water and the lines in the rocks pull it onwards until it finally reaches that strip of light.
The Norwegian coast is not always a place of harmony. It is alive, demanding and real. That is exactly what fascinates me about it.
It shows that beauty can also live in turmoil.

Yes, especially when the light is like this. It makes all the difference. Thank you, John!

Super eingefangen.

Danke dir, James! Oft dauern solche Fotoshoots ziemlich lange. Nicht weil man so viele Bilde macht, sondern eher, weil man genau das genießt was du beschrieben hast. Vielen Dank und einen angenehmen Start in die Woche !

Movement is captured with subtlety. I’ve just spent the weekend at the seaside (not in Norway) and I recognise that brief moment when the wave rises as it approaches the coast and stays in the air for a split second before crashing down.

Thank you! I’m glad you could relate to that moment so clearly! That brief pause before the wave breaks was exactly what I wanted to capture.
