It is the moment when the sun shows itself one last time before slowly giving way to darkness. The last light of the day, finding its way between the peaks, reminds me that something still shines even in darker times. Autumn is approaching, and the light is changing with it. It becomes rarer, softer and deeper, which makes it all the more special.
During the dark months, the landscape loses none of its beauty; it transforms. Colours grow more intense, contrasts sharper and the atmosphere richer. When winter finally shortens the days and darkness takes hold, other sources of light emerge: stars, the moon and perhaps even the northern lights. A spectacle visible only at this time of year.
For photography, that is a gift. The last light of the day and the first rays of morning give the landscape a special kind of magic found only in moments of transition. That is why the camera should never be put away during the dark months. Every day, every hour can produce an image telling a story of light and shadow, just like this moment before the light finally disappears.
