The Dead Trees

Early in the morning, while the light was still soft and the sky was beginning to move, I returned to a place I know well. The dead trees stand like sculptures in the landscape, silent, weathered and full of expression.

This time I photographed them with long exposures. Shutter speeds of up to 60 seconds turn the moving clouds into soft veils, making the sky a stage.

The trees remain still and sharply defined, a contrast to the changes above them. This technique lets me capture more than a single moment. It makes time visible.

In post-processing, I deliberately avoided strong colours. Instead I worked with a restrained palette, almost monochrome but not entirely black and white. This leaves room for texture, form and light without allowing colour to distract from the subject.

The series is understated and calm, concentrating entirely on the interplay between movement and stillness. For me it is another step towards Fine Art landscape photography, where less is often more.

  1. Beautiful photos!!

    1. Thank you, John!
