In a world filled with sensory overload, I am drawn to places that hold something back. Barren landscapes, rugged, reduced and quiet, offer me not less as a photographer, but more: more space for composition, greater clarity and more depth of expression.
At first glance, barren landscapes may seem unremarkable. Yet their photographic strength lies in their restraint. Without the distractions of lush vegetation or bright colours, what matters most comes forward: shapes, textures, lines and light.
Here the eye can become clear. Every rock, every groove and every shadow has something to say.
Emptiness becomes a stage on which light and time can quietly perform.
In black-and-white photography, these landscapes gain particular strength: textures become more sculptural, contrasts more intense, and the image more direct. Wide-angle views and reduction create space, not only in the photograph but also in the mind.
For me, barren landscapes are like a quiet dialogue with the earth. Unassuming yet powerful, minimal yet full of depth. That is precisely what makes them such compelling subjects.
These first impressions are only the beginning. Barren Landscapes will become more than a photographic theme for me. It will be a project, one that needs time, patience and open eyes.
A quiet long-term project that will unfold with every new photograph.
I look forward to following this path, step by step, picture by picture.
