Between Water and Reality

Stiller Bergsee mit spiegelnden Felsen und senkrechten Pfählen vor bewaldeten, wolkenverhangenen Bergen.

Sometimes a landscape seems to have a sense of time all its own.

The water lies still among the rocks. Dark, deep, and clear enough to show the mountains a second time. Wooden posts rise from the surface like ancient signs. Straight, silent, almost unfamiliar. Their reflections stretch further down than the eye can follow.

Clouds hang over the slopes. They conceal parts of the landscape and allow others to emerge for a moment. The lake gathers everything within it: light, stone, mist, and the few traces left by people.

Something unreal hung over this place that morning. The boundary between above and below seemed to dissolve. Mountains stood in the water. Clouds drifted beneath the rocks. For a brief moment, the landscape became a quiet space where orientation hardly mattered.

Perhaps that is what gives this photograph its power. It captures no dramatic moment. It speaks of depth, absence, and a stillness that holds something almost mysterious.

I also made a film during this photography trip. In it, I show the journey to the subject, the search for a composition, and the moment this photograph was made. It matters to me that my photographs are created outdoors in real landscapes, rather than artificially generated with AI. You can watch the film at this link .

I have also created a photography project about this trip on my website. There you can find more photographs, information about the location, and the story behind the series. You can explore the project at this link.
